1st Deadline: "Approval Form"--This is due within one week after the distribution of this
packet of information; that is, Monday, December 16th. Our "confirmation", indicating
which of your two choices was able to be granted--or in a few cases, neither of which was
able to be given the "go ahead" due to others requesting it first--will be given out on
Wednesday, December 18th. This way, students will know where they stand and can
"regroup" or start collecting materials and information during the Dec./Jan. holiday break, if
they so choose.
2nd Deadline: "Background Paper"--This is due Friday, January 31st, or before. One team
member will be responsible for the historical information and the other for the present and
future aspects of the topic. (If there is a third member of the team, then the present/future
report can be divided up by the second and third team members.) These reports will be
evaluated and scored separately; they will count roughly one quarter of each person's final
evaluation score.
3rd Deadline: "Rough Draft & Experimental Design/Blueprint"--Thursday, February 6th.
This will demonstrate to your teacher that you have an experimental plan or a blueprint of
how you will proceed. This will include a narrative description, as well as drawings,
indicating a thorough "thinking out" of all the steps, procedures, materials and props involved
in carrying out the investigation and interactive demonstration. This will look similar to the
first steps of a formal lab investigation.
4th Deadline: "Pre-Lab Write-Up"--Friday, February 14th. This is a more formal write-up
of the procedure described above, demonstrating that all systems are "go" for proceeding with
the investigation. The apparatus has been built and is in place for testing. Data tables for
gathering information are also formulated and ready to be filled-in.
Week Designations of In-class Work: These four weeks are turned over to the
approximately 70 teams to do their Science Fair work in the science labs at school. We will
store your boxes and each day they will be pulled out as you progress through the process of
producing your Science Fair presentation. The work you do in these four weeks will account
for approximately one half of your final evaluation grade. Rubric sheets for the qualities,
behaviors and amount of work accomplished each week will guide you and your teacher:
Week 1 | "Design" | Week of February 3 - 7 | (Deadline 3) |
Week 2 | "Build" | Week of February 10 -14 | (Deadline 4) |
Week 3 | "Test" | Week of February 24 - 28 |
N.B. Tables and/or graphs will need to be generated from the tests.
A log is to be kept of your trial and error adjustments/tweaking of
design/methodology of your interactive demonstration. |
Week 4 | "Display" | Week of March 3 - 5 | |
N.B. Each team will be given two display boards for covering and then
for the mounting of papers and materials. These will be set up on
one long table where other materials can be displayed as well. |

N.B. This needs to include a type of test to show that the audience has
learned from your teachings. |
